My husband and I love the Harry Potter series. So much so that we did the midnight showing when the last film came out. It was such a memorable experience. Besides observing all of the fantastic costumes people wore to the opening, one of the highlights was a hand-written piece of paper in the bathroom stall pointing to the toilet that said “This Way to the Minister of Magic.” It was so clever that I wish I had brought my phone to the bathroom to take a photo of it! I’m currently making my way through the movies again.
I did this painting for my husband for Valentine’s Day. His favorite character is Dobby. My favorite character is Luna Lovegood. What is yours?

The Lavender wedding is full of grace and serenity. No bridezilla would be attracted to this theme.
The beautiful thing about lavender is that it can be added to any element of a wedding (as you can see by these pictures).

Lavender wedding invitation and Lavender Wreath invitation both available in the Hand-Painted Weddings Invitation shop.
The Lavender Invitation is very breezy and calm. It evokes warm afternoons wandering through the quiet rustle of lavender fields.
This invitation is feeling a bit like traditional flower invitations, but takes on a painterly approach. The painterly approach allows it to feel more relaxed and breezy. This would be perfect for a couple who loves summertime and wants to incorporate this lovely, calming herb into their big day. This would also be perfect if the couple was moved by the expansive lavender fields in Provence.
In case you didn’t recognize it, this is the finished painting from the work in progress painting I posted yesterday.
The Lavender Invitation is available for ordering under the Hand-Painted Weddings Shop Invitations tab.
Above you will see a sneak peak of my progress on a new painting. Here I have used masking fluid to block off the lavender plant, so I could put a beautiful, warm wash on top of it. I’m excited to see how the bright blues and purples contrast with the warm yellows and oranges of the background.
Expect to see more works in progress around here! I like them a lot. I think it is interesting to see the progression into a finished piece. Watercolor can get a bit messy and I want to show that part of it too!

Today I am channelling serenity and tranquility by being inspired by lavender. As an aromatherapy herb, lavender is used to relieve stress, aid sleeping and support relaxation. If you would like to learn how to grow and harvest your own lavender, see here.
One of my savored uses of lavender oil is at yoga, which is one of my most relaxing hobbies/activities. During savasana (rest pose) at the end of a vigorous yoga session, one of my yoga teachers goes around the room and realigns shoulders and rubs our temples with lavender oil. If you are thinking, ew gross, then rest assured, because lavender oil has antimicrobial and antiseptic properties in it. It is such a lovely, restful way to end a yoga session.
Life has been really frantic for me lately, so this week I’m trying to focus on breathing and staying calm with my lavender candle burning by my side! Hope you are having a peaceful Tuesday!

Do you have any fun plans this weekend? I’m planning on taking a trip to my favorite place, Terrain at Styers. I always leave that store inspired! Also, if the weather cooperates, my friend and I are going to Longwood Gardens to see the amazing light installation that is currently on exhibition. All in all, it is shaping out to be a lovely weekend!
I am a big fan of outdoor weddings. If it wasn’t raining on my wedding day, my husband and I would have married outside in a rustic little courtyard. Instead we married inside by a cozy fireplace, which was a great alternative.
As you can see from this compilation of string light inspiration, string lights are the perfect touch for an outdoor wedding. They transform the venues into magical, celebratory places. String lights work beautifully in or outside of barn weddings, in backyard weddings, vineyard weddings, or in courtyards. From my experience, lighting is one of those extras at weddings, that often get overlooked. Oftentimes if you invest a little money and time into lighting, you can make up that money in other areas that might not have as big an impact. Lights really do transform the environment and add a beautiful sparkle to wedding photos.

String Lights Wedding invitation now available on the Hand-Painted Wedding invitation shop.
The String Lights invitation is casual and classy. The color palette in this hand-painted invitation is inspired by a backyard summer barbeque. The script font is classy in a soft, relaxed way. This invitation would be perfect for the couple who is getting married at a fully outdoors or partially outdoors wedding venue. The ideal wedding would start in the bright, hot sunshine and continue through the sunset as the string lights start to twinkle.
The couple will likely share a relaxed and calm personality…the kind of people that have an ease about them.

I love terrariums. My mom makes them, so I grew up with one in the house. When I was young, I imagined that there was a little world in the terrarium, because she would add little creature sculptures amongst the plants. It is pretty amazing that the plants can prosper in this mini biosphere. This past Christmas my mom surprised me with my very own terrarium. It has a very prominent home within our apartment.
Lately, I have been seeing a lot of terrariums that are open, instead of being closed off. While I find these open terrariums a little less amazing, I still adore them. Just check out this terrarium I painted above! It is like a terrarium meets a Christmas ornament, so how could I not love it!! How lovely it would be to hang these in the windows!
This week I am inspired by string lights. String lights are the epitome of lazy, hot summer days relaxing with friends on decks and porches. Smell the delicious aroma of barbeque mixing with citronella. Heirloom tomato salads, crisp beers, and sweet watermelon smack your lips….it’s summertime!

There are so many options for designing your Italy-inspired wedding.
You could go the old-world charming route and have a lot of lace accents, candlelight, and rich colors.
You could also create a wedding inspired by the textures and colors of Venice. The silvery green (from the water) and the coral (of the buildings) would be a beautiful color palette for this wedding design.
You could go for a very strong Roman theme, especially if your wedding venue has pillars in its architecture.
Another route is to focus on the food of Italy, which is what I hinted at with this inspiration board. On one of my trips to Rome, I went with a good friend, Melissa, and stayed with her extended family. It was a marvelous way to see how the Italians live. The family didn’t speak much (if any) English, so I had to stay keen on observing their body language to keep up with the goings on. One of the things I liked that they did, is at the dinner table the passed around a baguette and broke off a piece of it and put it directly on the table cloth to eat with dinner. It was so casual; I loved it. It would be so much fun to have a wedding on a long table where food is served family-style and where the guests all break bread together.

Venice Canal wedding invitation now available in the Hand-Painted Weddings invitation shop.
The Venice Canal Invitation is perfect for the couple who is doing a destination wedding in Venice, but it would also be splendid for the couple who adores Venice as much as I do, and wants to pull that aspect of their lives into their wedding day.
This invitation celebrates the beauty of the canals in Venice. It symbolizes the history and passage of time of one of the most unique cities in the world.
The Venice Canal Invitation is available for ordering under the Hand-Painted Weddings Shop Invitations tab.
Burano is a small set of islands connected by canals that is a 40-minute water ferry (or Vaporetto) ride from the main Venice island. It is known for its brightly-colored houses and has a history of lace-making.
The first three times I visited Venice I decided not to take the excursion to Burano. I’m so glad I decided to take the trip there this past time. It is such a magical little place! It almost doesn’t look real.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am infatuated with Venice. I have been there 4 times in the last 8 years! That is basically an obsession!
I love the alleyways. I love getting lost down them. I love the deterioration in the buildings. There is something so beautiful in erosion. Venice is one of the most unique places in the world, and maybe that is why I love it. The island is in a fragile, deteriorated state and it creates this environment where you want to soak in every idiosyncrasy, because one day it will be no more. I wonder how our lives would change if we did that with our own lives every single day. I know I sure could use this reminder. So, today I will try to get lost in the fragile, deteriorating details in my life and soak in every moment.

This week I’m inspired by Italy, particularly the Colosseum. I have been fortunate enough to have visited Italy a few times. I can’t seem to get enough of the place. I’m already itching to go back. Maybe it is my roots…although I am only 25% Italian, up until I got married, I had had an Italian last name, so I always felt very Italian. I am very proud of my Italian heritage. I love the way the Italians live. They are very family-focused and cherish the simple things in life like a great glass of vino or a plate of juicy deep fried mozzarella-stuffed zucchini blossoms….mmm. Now I’m hungry!
I have a lot more Italian inspiration on the way this week, so stay tuned!

Because this is my first week after announcing Hand-Painted Weddings to all of my friends and family, I thought I extend my week of blogging and have a Saturday post!
This is the second half to the Colorful Leaves theme, the Begonia invitation. The Begonia invitation holds a special place in my heart because it is the painting that enlightened me to my love of watercolor. I adore the loose brushstrokes in the leaf and how the contrasting colors (red and green) mix with one another.
Bonus reception idea for the Begonia theme….give away potted Begonias as favors. You can even put them at each place setting so they will act as table decor as well as favors.
Have a great weekend friends!
Note: The Begonia Invitation is available for ordering under the Hand-Painted Weddings Shop Invitations tab.
I love how the Colorful Leaves theme can either feature the bright magentas and greens of Caladium leaves invitation, or it can be a very romantic and vintage theme featuring a mix of deep purples and silvery greens to pair with the Begonia leaves invitation.
The Begonia and Caladium leaves make a striking pair with flowers for bouquets, centerpieces, and boutonnieres. I love how these leaves can either accent the arrangement or take the spotlight.
The Colorful Leaves theme is perfect for a couple who has a love for nature, and wants and romantic, candlelit, garden wedding.

The Caladium Plant invitation is a perfect invitation for a couple that gardens together. Maybe the bride or groom are botanists; this would be a great way to incorporate this that passion into a wedding theme. It would also be very beautiful for a garden wedding.
I like that the caladium leaves are just as colorful and dramatic as flowers are, but they are more unexpected and unique. I really love how these two leaves look like they are canoodling!
