As I mentioned in Tuesday’s blog post, the bride in this Country backyard wedding did a lot of DIY touches. She spent a long time designing and “crafting” for her wedding. I was lucky enough to work with her on some of the hand-painted touches such as the music themed wedding invitations, thank you cards at each person’s place setting, escort cards which were strung on an antique windowpane, and Country Cobblestone thumbprint guestbook.

The couple both shares a love for music so they included that love visually in their wedding invitation design with the music notes graphic. Laura is a wonderful singer, who wrote and recorded their first dance song at their wedding. This song literally gives me chills…it is so amazing! Craig plays the guitar, so they had a white guitar at their wedding for guests to sign with a gold metallic Sharpie marker.

Impressed by the amount of DIY touches, the bride created for her wedding, I asked her a couple of questions about her tips for other DIY brides out there, as well as how paper products are incorporated into a DIY wedding.

Allison: How did your wedding paper tie into the look of your wedding?

Laura: The Hand-Painted Wedding touches captured the the rustic elegance I was going for. Purples and greens were bled together in a simple, understated elegance as the backdrop for my wedding invitations, escort cards and personalized thank-you cards at each place setting. I chose the Country Cobblestone thumbprint guest book which was perfect because it looked just like the dirt road behind the alter at our backyard country wedding. I hand made almost every decoration in the wedding and so I really appreciated the originality and the beauty of the Hand Painted wedding paper. Allison Krosnick is so talented and I feel so lucky to call her my sister.

Allison: What tips do you have for other DIY backyard wedding brides?

Laura: “Be easy on yourself! Seriously, if you are anything like I was, you are putting way more pressure on yourself than other people are. After a year of planning and crafting, a million pins on pinterest, and a few dozen spreadsheets, the wedding finally came. It was clear about two hours into hair and makeup that things weren’t going to go as planned. Tents were flying upside down, I was a full table short of place settings, and half the lights on my DIY backdrop made with organza and Christmas lights wouldn’t stay lit! The groomsmen forgot their boutonniere and my aisle runner was blowing in the wind as I stood at the alter!

And it was STILL one of the most amazing nights of my life. I stressed out trying to make everything perfect and then nothing went to plan and I realized it didn’t matter anyway, and no one cared. So please brides, be nice to yourself, you are only one woman.”

Come back tomorrow to learn the bride’s favorite moment.

Penn State Alumni Wedding – Custom Thumbprint Guestbook

August 28, 2015By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Penn State Thumbprint Guestbook by Hand-Painted Weddings Penn State Thumbprint Guestbook by Hand-Painted Weddings Penn State Thumbprint Guestbook by Hand-Painted WeddingsIt is back to school time again! As the college students are headed back to campus this week, I wanted to share with you a fun way to commemorate your alma mater on your wedding day by working with me to create a custom University themed Thumbprint Guestbook.

This couple, Kim and CJ both went to Penn State University together. I worked with them to create this thumbprint guestbook which after their wedding will be a unique keepsake adorning their walls for years to come.

At Kim and CJ’s wedding in a couple of weeks, their guests will sign the path towards the Nittany Lion Shrine with their thumbprints. As you can see, I painted the fall foliage in honor of this fall wedding, and customized the Penn State sign with the couple’s name and wedding date.

Whatever the University or College, every campus has a section of it that resonates with the campus community…that would be the personal spot to feature in your Custom Thumbprint Guestbook.

Philly Proud – Love Park Thumbprint Guest Print

October 21, 2014By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Love Park Thumbprint Guest Print by Hand-Painted WeddingsPhiladelphia is of course known as the “City of Brotherly Love,” but the icon that most effectively displays that is located at the center of the city at Love Park. With beautiful City Hall on one side and a beaming fountain that changes color…sometimes green at St. Patty’s Day or pink during Breast Cancer Awareness month…it really is must-see spot.

I am very Philly proud. I adore this city. It is a city of loyal, hard-working people and artists that aren’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in. I’m not really into sports, but I still share these characteristics. I created this Love Park Thumbprint Guestbook for all my fellow Philly proud couples out there. This is the perfect addition to any Philadelphia wedding no matter the theme or season of the wedding. It also coordinates with the Love Park Invitation set and Love Park Thank you cards, table numbers, and favor tags.

Our Whale’s Tale: A Nantucket Wedding

Whale's Tale Custom Thumbprint Guest print by Hand-Painted Weddings

Whale's Tale Custom Thumbprint Guest print by Hand-Painted WeddingsTwo days after Labor Day, the unofficial last day of summer, and I’m still reminiscing on some of the creative custom beach-themed thumbprint guestbooks I have been lucky enough to work on these past few months.

Our Whale’s Tale guest print certainly tops the most creative requests I have received from a bride. Andria and Gene got married earlier this summer in beautiful Nantucket. The vision for this print is for guests to place their thumbprints in the water surrounding the whale. I love when couples have unique ideas on ways to personalize their weddings! This custom Whale’s Tale guest print is sure to be a keepsake for years to come, and that really warms my heart!

Jennette’s Pier Custom Thumbprint Guest Print

August 27, 2014By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Jeannette's Pier Custom print by Hand-Painted Weddings Jeannette's Pier Custom print by Hand-Painted Weddings Jeannette's Pier Custom print by Hand-Painted WeddingsI have had the wonderful opportunity to work on some custom thumbprint guestbook projects this past summer. One example is a request from Jennifer who got married in June at the beautiful Jennette’s Pier in North Carolina.

This custom thumbprint guest print was inspired by the Hand-Painted Weddings Beach Thumbprint guest print, where the guests thumbprints act as the footsteps leading to the water and the pier.

This print was also special because it was printed on a canvas. A canvas print is another option for the couple to hang the piece afterwards without framing.

To keep the pricing affordable for my clients, I change the dimensions of the print in order to print to a standard sized canvas (like 11″ x 14″ or 16″ x 20″). If you are interested in your own custom thumbprint guest print, please contact me here.

In the Studio: Custom Hand-Painted Thumbprint Guest print

September 4, 2013By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Custom Thumbprint Guest print by Hand-Painted WeddingsI’m excited to share this custom hand-painted thumbprint guestbook I just finished for a couple who is getting married in Long Island at the end of the month. For their Save-the-Date the couple had etched their names and wedding date into two planks in a fence along the beach. They took a photo of the scene and used it for their Save-the-Date. When the bride came across the Hand-Painted Beach Thumbprint Guestbook she got the inspiration to tie this creative element into her guestbook and contacted me to customize this piece especially for her wedding. I love how an idea can translate creatively into different aesthetic aspects of the wedding!

Beach Thumbprint Guest Print

July 2, 2013By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Beach Thumbprint Guest Print by Hand-Painted WeddingsThe Beach thumbprint guestbook features sunny, sandy beach with the red, old-fashioned airplane flying overhead announcing the couple’s wedding names and wedding date!

The thumbprints in this guest print are the footprints that lead down the path towards the turquoise ocean. This would be a beautiful option for your beach-themed wedding!

The Beach Thumbprint Guestbook is now available for ordering in the Hand-Painted Weddings Thumbprint Guestbook shop.

Lighthouse Thumbprint Guest Print

June 20, 2013By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Lighthouse Thumbprint Guest Print by Hand-Painted WeddingsI listen to a series of guided meditations on my phone from time to time to get centered. Most of them guide me to picture myself in a calm, relaxed location. I usually find peace in the woods. I find myself drawn to the trees and the mountains with leaves crutching under my feet, or sitting on a sweeping porch of a cabin watching the sunrise.

But lately, I have found that when asked to go to my place of peace, I have picked the beach instead of the woods. I hear the clapping of soft waves and the vast sky above with sand in between my toes.

I haven’t made it to the beach yet this season, but I’m ready! Today and tomorrow I am sharing with you TWO beach-themed thumbprint guest prints.

Today’s thumbprint guestbook features this beautiful lighthouse and a row of detailed rocks. If you zoom in you will see a fun old-fashioned plane and an egret (the bird) perched on one of the rocks in the foreground.

The thumbprints that your guests add to this guestbook can act as cobblestones or if you choose a tan or silvery ink pad, they can act as footprints in the sand. Both are beautiful! This would be a great addition to your beach-themed wedding!

The Lighthouse Thumbprint Guestbook is available in the Hand-Painted Weddings Thumbprint Guestbook shop.

Country Cobblestone Thumbprint Guestbook

June 5, 2013By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Country Cobblestone Thumbprint Guestbook by Hand-Painted WeddingsI’m working on a few more Thumbprint Guestbooks. The first one I will show you is this Country Cobblestone Thumbprint Guestbook. The couple’s names go on the top piece of wood on the sign and the wedding date goes on the bottom.

Just as with the Cobblestone Thumbprint Guestbook, guests “sign” with their fingerprint to fill in the cobblestone path.

I love the warm appeal of this guest print. It is the essence of a summer day at sunset!

Roller Derby Thumbprint Guest Print

January 30, 2013By AllisonHand-Painted Guest book

Roller Derby Thumbprint Guest Print by Hand-Painted WeddingsA couple of weeks back at the Lovesick Expo in Philadelphia, I raffled off the Hand-Painted Weddings Cobblestone Thumbprint Guest Print. The woman who won the raffle excited came to meet me in person and was telling me that she and her partner were really into roller derby….and a lightbulb went off. I thought, “That would be a super cool, unique theme for a wedding!”

The Roller Derby Thumbprint Guestbook is inspired by vintage pinup calendar girls, with the legs up in the air. This guest print definitely has an air of sexiness to it. I feel that as tough of a sport as roller derby is, there also is a bit of sexiness to this sport.

The Roller Derby Thumbprint Guestbook is now available for purchase in the Thumbprint Guestbook Shop.
