  • Textures Study

    Paintings by Hand-Painted Weddings.

I’ve been playing around with the textures in watercolor lately. Mixing techniques of washes with loose brushstrokes, and watching what naturally happens as the paint interacts on the paper. I’ve also been playing around with the beauty of mixing in complementary colors into scenes as accents, as seen above when I add red to the green.

  • Nostalgic for Italy

    Painting by Hand-Painted Weddings.

My husband is going on a weeklong trip to Rome next week with his MBA class, and it has me nostalgic for my last trip to Italy. This is a painting I did of the view at the edge of the island of Burano in Venice. This painting is very different from the first Burano painting I featured on this blog here, and can be purchased here.

If you walk through the streets of Burano you will be welcomed by colorful buildings and beautiful canals, but if you go to the edge, your view is serene and calming. It is just remarkable!

  • Morning Glory: A Lesson in Gratitude

    Paintings by Hand-Painted Weddings.

Did you know that the morning glory flower lives for one day? Well, actually, it is less than a day. It blooms when the sun comes up and wilts and dies by sunset. I bought a morning glory plant this year, and it is honestly so exciting to see one of the flowers blooming in the morning.

I know I am such a sap, but I can’t help but think what it would be like to live for one day! First of all, I have noticed that the flower won’t even open if it is raining, like it is today in Philadelphia. I get that! I wouldn’t want my only day alive to be on a rainy day either! What would you do if you only had one day to live? I know I would be grateful for every second of that day! So that is something to remember on a rainy Tuesday after a long weekend…gratitude for every second!
