It is back to school time again! As the college students are headed back to campus this week, I wanted to share with you a fun way to commemorate your alma mater on your wedding day by working with me to create a custom University themed Thumbprint Guestbook.

This couple, Kim and CJ both went to Penn State University together. I worked with them to create this thumbprint guestbook which after their wedding will be a unique keepsake adorning their walls for years to come.

At Kim and CJ’s wedding in a couple of weeks, their guests will sign the path towards the Nittany Lion Shrine with their thumbprints. As you can see, I painted the fall foliage in honor of this fall wedding, and customized the Penn State sign with the couple’s name and wedding date.

Whatever the University or College, every campus has a section of it that resonates with the campus community…that would be the personal spot to feature in your Custom Thumbprint Guestbook.

  • Hand-Painted Invitation: Back-to-school

The Back-to-School Invitation is perfect for the couple that shares a profession as a teacher, or for a couple who met in school. This is a very playful interpretation of the Back-to-School theme. I would particularly recommend going with the Paper bag envelope for authenticity.

I’m on a roll this week…the Back-to-School Invitation is already available under the Hand-Painted Weddings Shop Invitations tab.

  • Inspired by Classic Back-to-School Apple

Have you ever wondered where the tradition of giving an apple to a teacher came from? I wonder if it is because apple are in season at the beginning of the school year. Or maybe it is because of the smart, health benefits of “eating an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Whatever the reason, I like it.

Cherishing a single piece of fruit is so simple and yet so charming. There is this scene in Little Women where Jo is peeling an orange as a treat at her desk on a snowy day, and that orange looks like the most decadent treat in the world. That is what I think about when I think of gifting an apple to a teacher at back-to-school time….the beauty of slowing down and savoring the exquisite taste of an apple in season.
