Commissioned Watercolor gift painting the Merion Tribute House

I love the creative ideas clients come to me with for commissioned watercolor gifts! This client is the mother of the bride. The idea was for a surprise anniversary gift for her daughter and son in law.

Their wedding invitation used thermography for the text and was a simple text only design printed on a thick white board. The idea was to paint their reception site on their invitation. They got married at the popular gothic style castle in the Philadelphia suburbs called the Merion Tribute House.

I met with the client in person and we excitedly went through her wedding photos from her daughter’s wedding. I shared a couple of sketched layouts and we decided to go with the layout above because it was the most colorful. The Merion Tribute house, being castle like, has a lot of gray stonework, so zooming in on the beautiful red door, stained glass windows, and greenery around the entrance brought a lot of nice colors to the watercolor. As you can see in one of the zoomed in photos, I added some silver metallic watercolor to the windows which added a nice shimmer to the piece.

What I liked about this project was that it was very similar to what I create for clients for their wedding invitations but it was almost like a retrospective because the wedding had already occurred.

10 Patriotic Details featured on the Knot

I’m a little late to announce this one but Hand-Painted Weddings was featured amongst some very talented Philly vendors in The Knot’s “10 Patriotic Details to Steal From This July Fourth Wedding: An Independence Day inspiration shoot that’s as American as apple pie.”

The Love Sweet Love cake sign and ribbon escort cards were highlighted as two of the ideas for a patriotic wedding. The beautiful tablescape, bouquet, signature cocktail sign, and sparkler cards are also featured in the event, so definitely check it out.

Penn State Alumni Wedding – Custom Thumbprint Guestbook

It is back to school time again! As the college students are headed back to campus this week, I wanted to share with you a fun way to commemorate your alma mater on your wedding day by working with me to create a custom University themed Thumbprint Guestbook.

This couple, Kim and CJ both went to Penn State University together. I worked with them to create this thumbprint guestbook which after their wedding will be a unique keepsake adorning their walls for years to come.

At Kim and CJ’s wedding in a couple of weeks, their guests will sign the path towards the Nittany Lion Shrine with their thumbprints. As you can see, I painted the fall foliage in honor of this fall wedding, and customized the Penn State sign with the couple’s name and wedding date.

Whatever the University or College, every campus has a section of it that resonates with the campus community…that would be the personal spot to feature in your Custom Thumbprint Guestbook.
