  • Origami Crane Themed Wedding: 2 Ways

Origami cranes are so versatile. They work beautifully in a romantic evening wedding as well as a whimsical daytime wedding. They can be placed amongst the centerpiece (seated birds). They can hang in strings above the ceremony space or spruce up the stage by the band (flying birds). You can also have them out as favors.

A little tip if you decide to hang your origami cranes on strings…get your hot glue gun out! Use a needlepoint and string the cranes. Then put a blob of hot glue on the places of the string where you want the cranes to sit. Voila! Make sure you have wax paper underneath where you are hot glueing. It is much faster than trying to tie knots under each crane. Also, don’t forget to have fun with your paper selection. There are limitless patterns to choose from!

I hope I have encouraged a few of you to consider including origami cranes to your wedding. It’s an easy-to-make, handmade element laced with the symbolism of prosperity and good fortune.

  • Inspired by Origami Cranes

Have you ever heard of the Japanese tradition of the Thousand origami cranes? Traditionally the father presents the bride and groom a string of a thousand origami cranes as a wedding gift. It is a representation of a thousand years of happiness and good luck.

For our wedding we decided to incorporate this lovely tradition into our wedding reception decor. While I doubt we made a thousand cranes (we never counted), my mom, sister, and I spent many nights in front of a movie making origami cranes. At first the task seemed daunting, but after making about a dozen, it became sort of therapeutic. While my father certainly didn’t touch the project, it meant more to me that my mom, sister and I folded the cranes, because I have fond memories of folding origami together growing up.

We still have a string of origami cranes from the wedding hanging by our window rod amongst our drapes in our living room. We also have a tangled mess of them in a basket in our closet. 🙂

  • Inspired by Tandem Bikes

Tandem bikes have become somewhat trendy in wedding photos the last couple of years. I am not one to necessarily hop on a trend, but there is something incredibly playful about a tandem bike theme that I think would work perfectly with many couples.

Living in a city, and passing through Fairmount Park everyday, I am surrounded by bicyclists. Whether bicycling is simply a hobby, a sport, or a mode of transportation, bicycles play a big part in many people’s lives. The tandem bike is a kitchy way to express that passion or hobby at your wedding.

The Tandem Bike Invitation is available for ordering under the Hand-Painted Weddings Shop Invitations tab.
