    Inspired by Italy: Colosseum

    This week I’m inspired by Italy, particularly the Colosseum. I have been fortunate enough to have visited Italy a few times. I can’t seem to get enough of the place. I’m already itching to go back. Maybe it is my roots…although I am only 25% Italian, up until I got married, I had had an Italian last name, so I always felt very Italian. I am very proud of my Italian heritage. I love the way the Italians live. They are very family-focused and cherish the simple things in life like a great glass of vino or a plate of juicy deep fried mozzarella-stuffed zucchini blossoms….mmm. Now I’m hungry!

    I have a lot more Italian inspiration on the way this week, so stay tuned!

    Because this is my first week after announcing Hand-Painted Weddings to all of my friends and family, I thought I extend my week of blogging and have a Saturday post!

    This is the second half to the Colorful Leaves theme, the Begonia invitation. The Begonia invitation holds a special place in my heart because it is the painting that enlightened me to my love of watercolor. I adore the loose brushstrokes in the leaf and how the contrasting colors (red and green) mix with one another.

    Bonus reception idea for the Begonia theme….give away potted Begonias as favors. You can even put them at each place setting so they will act as table decor as well as favors.

    Hand-Painted Reception: Inspired by Colorful Leaves

    I love how the Colorful Leaves theme can either feature the bright magentas and greens of Caladium leaves invitation, or it can be a very romantic and vintage theme featuring a mix of deep purples and silvery greens to pair with the Begonia leaves invitation.

    The Begonia and Caladium leaves make a striking pair with flowers for bouquets, centerpieces, and boutonnieres. I love how these leaves can either accent the arrangement or take the spotlight.

    The Colorful Leaves theme is perfect for a couple who has a love for nature, and wants and romantic, candlelit, garden wedding.

Because when I’m painting, I lose track of time. I get completely in the zone. If you’re an artist, you know that feeling—the hours disappear, and suddenly I look up and realize I’ve been painting for far longer than I intended. And I rarely paint something just once. I’ll often come back to a piece throughout the day, or even over the course of a week, adding details I notice from a different perspective. Those details matter. Brittany and Nick got married this past weekend at Brittany and Nick got married this past weekend at the beautiful Beaufort Hotel in North Carolina! Their invitation suite featured four venue paintings! The couple wasn’t interested in a wedding crest/monogram so I did a painting of their church top and centered on their invitation card. Beaufort Hotel from the view of the water is painted along the bottom. In a similar fashion the Morehead Country Club was painted along the bottom of their rehearsal dinner invitation. A special congratulations to Ali and John who got A special congratulations to Ali and John who got married this past weekend at Harbour Town Clubhouse in Hilton Head! Their coastal wedding suite featured a fun painting of the lighthouse on their save the date. Their invitation was a formal one with wedding crest and was wrapped in a watercolor vellum wrap featuring their venue (probably my favorite touch). #handpaintedweddings #watercolorwedding #hiltonheadwedding
The bride is an interior designer so her attention The bride is an interior designer so her attention to detail was top notch. She truly had the most elegance and pristine vision for her destination wedding at @belmondhotelcipriani in Venice, Italy. For her save the date I painted the Hotel Cipriani boat along the canal with the historic San Marco square in the background. I also painted Baroque architectural details in “Venetian pink” on the corners. Those elements were repeated on the couple’s invitation which featured a soft painting of the venue along the canal. A custom illustrated map was also painted in their suite—to get guests excited for their trip! The bride found these beautiful Venice inspired frames for her wedding day paper and I drew from the inspiration, along with the sculpture on top of the columns in Piazzo San Marco to paint a little lion detail for their escort cards. I also added an elegant oval shape to many of her signs which is a subtle, luxe touch I like to add if the designs are very simple. This welcome party at @belmondhotelcipriani in Ven This welcome party at @belmondhotelcipriani in Venice, Italy was nearly as fancy as the couple’s wedding day so I worked with the bride to separate the look of their wedding day paper. The welcome party took on an elegant garden party aesthetic complete with fruits and colorful florals and accents of pewter. While the wedding was elegant neutrals with ivory and gold. There was a custom menu with a brushed lettered name on it that opened upwards with the guest’s specific meal inside. This brushed lettering continued on the drink menu and sign for the watercolor artist that was on site @studiosheean Custom luxe ivory cocktail napkins with a simple bright green monogram was handed out with the drinks. It was a warm day full of love, 3 years ago! My dr It was a warm day full of love, 3 years ago! My dream wedding. Planning happened in such a kismet way—we got married in the side yard of a friend of a friend’s father’s mansion, which I painted on the wedding invitation and welcome sign. I also gifted the original to him as a thank you. ☺️ It was an intimate 50 person wedding so I considered all the little details from handwritten thank you cards on the ceremony chairs, to bug spray station, time capsule guestbook, a cutting cake made by my mom, and 6 signature drinks to choose from (more than I’ve ever painted on a client’s signature cocktail sign).
